Seven Card Stud Strategy
Stud is a game where more winning hands are decided by the highest pair
and highest two pairs, than by straights, flushes and other big hands. So
if you start with a straight or flush draw, it should have at least two
high cards or at least one card that is higher than anything on the board.
The draw hands and low pair starting hands need to improve or turn a high
pairs quickly and justify continued play. Any time your high hand is
beaten on the board you should fold, unless you think you still have the
best draw hand.
Try to fast play early high hands to thin out the
competition. Slow play draw hands to keep other players in to increase the
pot odds in case you hit.
Donít play three to a low straight or flush and watch
the board carefully. Fold if the tide turns against you and another
playerís hand begins to look dangerous. The first four cards are the key
If you donít have good possibilities in the first four cards
then fold, unless you are setting up a major bluff. There is a much higher
statistic of winning when the first four cards are strong, so try to stick
to that rule throughout your play and you will win more than you lose.
